Major League Soccer Partnership
Southern New Hampshire University
Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) entered into a multi-year partnership with Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2015, becoming the League’s exclusive education partner. As part of the agreement, we worked with former member of the LA Galaxy and SNHU student, Omar Gonzalez, to film English and Spanish-language spots. Unfortunately, Omar was traded to La Liga (the mexican soccer league) before the commercials made it to market. So we ended up salvaging the footage to create 3 more general market SNHU commercials with Omar, and made an entirely new partnership announcement commercial without him.
MLS-SNHU Partnership Announcement
This spot came from the ashes of the Omar trade. After we got the news, we were told that we still had to edit the Omar commercials, AND, we had to deliver a partnership announcement spot out of thin air. So, we turned to a mix of stock footage, leftover imagery from other projects, and contributions from the MLS.
Out of the 4 commercials, this one is probably my favorite. I've been wanting to make this commercial for a long time. Or at least, something like it. So I consider myself very fortunate for the opportunity to take on such big roles with the creation of this spot. I came up with the concept, wrote the script, sourced music, created the ripomatic for the pitch (that was very close to the end product), and read the VO.
Omar Gonzalez Commercial with Voiceover
This was the original concept that ended up being the vehicle from which all the other spots were kind of directed and shaped. The only thing that changed was the end shot—which we ended up shooting ourselves on an iphone.
I helped with the concept, wrote the script, worked with the VO talent, made the edit, did final color, and created graphics.
Omar Gonzalez Commercial with Soundbites
Since we were spending so much time and resouces on this entire effort, we knew that it was paramount to maximize the allotted time we had with Omar (roughly 8 hours), and figured we'd cover all our bases. So we made sure to get as much b-roll and as many soundbites we could fit in one day. Which really paid off. After the Omar commercial rolled out, I quickly whipped this guy together, unbeknowst to our clients, and was able to turn this into a national commercial that ran in market alongside the others within this campaign.
I made the edit, sourced music, and did final color.
